A thank you, a tribute, an invitation
SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA—Nearly 400 stories later, Root River Current is beginning its fourth year of publishing – absolutely remarkable!
The dream of a few in 2023 is realized for hundreds over and over again, week after week with a wider range of stories than first imagined – articles on issues of concern related to land use, health, government policy and community; essays on life and living in rural Minnesota; poetry and photography that reflect the inspiration and emotion that rises up in everyday matters of being immersed in this region.
More than any single city or county, Southeast Minnesota – the greater Root River Valley – is a gem of a place to live in, visit and enjoy.
Root River Current’s goal is to share the untold stories that define and strengthen this regional community – our volunteer organizations and the people behind them; the caring families that are committed to strengthening community with their neighbors; the thriving businesses that support our local economy. Stories that are of the moment
But ever flowing through the landscape
Carving channels, forming banks
Both reflecting and creating
Independent and connected.
Our stories don’t stand still
They enter a river of awareness
Like raindrops from a storm
Or ice melt that brings news of the ages
Or springs that bubble up through limestone – Clear, cold, and refreshing . . .
Let us celebrate our storytellers
Our “works of wit and schemes of art”
And wave our banner in the light
This day is yours and also ours
A privilege and a responsibility
A pillar of promise and a joy to share.
