Portrait of an Artist as a Young Gay Man, by Patrick Scully
July 3 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Overview
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Gay Man is the first episode of Patrick Scully’s autobiographical opus Somewhere Along the Rainbow. Mixing together stories of his personal life, his life as an artist and activist, and progress and setbacks in the world of LGBTQ rights, Scully begins the opus in high school in the 60’s, and takes us on a journey through his school and college years, into his early professional life in the arts.
This first segment ends in 1980, having traversed the ups and downs of Scully’s coming out story, the victories and defeats of Minneapolis and St Paul passing laws protecting Lesbian, Gay and Trans rights, and Harvey Milk’s legacy in San Francisco. If you were out and about in that era, it will bring back memories of those days, good and not so good. If this was all before your time, it promises an engaging history lesson that no school has yet taught.
This performance is recommended for a mature audience.
