Overview
Direct seeding of native hardwood trees is a relatively new approach to hardwood forest regeneration, with several advantages over traditional planting of seedlings.
Learn how one southeast Minnesota landowner is using the method. Join Minnesota Department of Natural Resources forestry staff for a field tour at Smiley Bauer’s place: 10250 Frank Road, Caledonia, MN.
Park at the red X on map (signs posted).
• Dress for walking/weather and insects. Bring your own water bottle etc.
• Bring a UTV if you have one for transportation to a second plantation.
• Carpool with friends if possible.
