March 10

Copy of Tuesday Talk Poster-3 (1)

Overview

ALGIFIC TALUS SLOPES are rare microhabitats where cool, moist conditions support plants and snails not occuring elsewhere in the region. In this presentation, Lynch will talk about her work documenting these rarities and the potential impacts of climate change on this unique habitat.

SPEAKER: Beth Lynch, PhD
Beth Lynch is a plant ecologist who moved to northeast Iowa in 1997. She taught classes in ecology and botany at Luther College in Decorah before retiring from teaching in 2024. Shenjoys exploring the forests, fields, and wetlands around her home, often accompanied by a reasonably good dog or two. She and her spouse are restoring a white oak woodland on their property. During the spring, she obsessively patrols hundreds of acres of public land to control the spread of garlic mustard.
