Exciting opportunities are in store for Root River Current readers, content creators, and fans in 2024.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the magazine’s first year’s growth supports a big step forward for staffing, plus openings for new board members to help guide continued success.
Root River Current is seeking a Managing Editor
The managing editor will provide hands-on editorial direction and operations management.
This person will work closely with existing staff and board members to identify story ideas, expand its roster of content contributors, and seek out ‘community voices’ whose creative essays, poetry, photography and more capture the ‘sense of place’ we know as southeastern Minnesota’s greater Root River valley.
This is a “contract for services” part-time position requiring an average of 40 hours monthly; primary duties include managing the day-to-day editorial process, reporters/writers and other content contributors, online publishing, and eNewsletter.
Writing/editing experience, managing freelance contributors, and an openness/willingness to new ideas are among the characteristics that will make this a successful partnership.

Join A Visionary, Creative And Successful Board Of Directors
Already, Root River Current is recognized as an eMagazine that is consistently providing stories that help build community in southeast Minnesota!
The existing nine-member Board of Directors is actively seeking potential directors to add more ideas, enthusiasm, and encouragement to grow this ‘dream’ into something even bigger.
As a governing board, directors provide strategic direction, legal and fiduciary oversight, and staff management. Its organizational work includes coordinating marketing, fundraising, and resource development.
As a working board, directors contribute their time and expertise to content development, raising money, promotional campaigns, enhancing and extending Root River Current’s presence in the community, and collaborating with its staff to meet publication goals and deadlines.
The Board meets every two to three months, as necessary, including its Annual Meeting in March; responsibilities may also include attending committee meetings, donor events, or community outreach activities.
