Root River Current recognizes there are many ways and means of telling a story—written word, photography, video, audio, illustrations. We welcome your ideas and suggestions ranging from current affairs, news and feature stories to original poetry, essays, photography and digital storytelling.
Root River Current publishes both commissioned and non-commissioned material. Commissioned stories — news stories assigned by the managing editor — typically result in a stipend for the contributor. Root River Current generally does not pay stipends for non-commissioned works, recognizing instead that by publishing original material it will benefit the contributor with valuable exposure to a broader audience, furthering their creative pursuits.
In all cases, we request you submit a description or sample in advance for consideration. Specific details can be found on our Contributor Guidelines page. You will be contacted in the event your story idea or material has been selected for publication.
