From Radio Waves to Fan Blogs: How Tony Schultz Built His Vikings Community
How a lifelong love for the Vikings turns into thriving online platform for local fan

HOUSTON — Tony Schultz is a faithful Minnesota Vikings fan – win, lose or tie. Every week from his Houston, Minn., home office, he types his analyses into two or three football fan blogs for VikingsTerritory.com, a site that reaches millions of fans on a monthly basis.
“I decided to join the [Vikings Territory] team last spring,” said Schultz. “I get to write and talk about my favorite team. It makes it easy. This has been a great way to get fans more information about the team and connect to local Vikings fans.”

“I’ve been a lifelong Vikings fan and have followed them painfully most of life,” said Schultz.
This year, he even followed them to Ireland for the Week 4 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a final score of 24-21; the Vikings played at Croke Park in Dublin on September 28, 2025, as the first of two back-to-back overseas games.
The trip and any games he attends are on his own dime. They’re not perks for being a fan blogger.
From radio DJ to fan blogger
So, how did Schultz become a Vikings fan blogger?
After working as a DJ for local country music station KQ98, Spring Grove/La Crosse, and its affiliated station for 13 years, his job was eliminated.
So, Schultz pivoted.

The transition from radio to blogger wasn’t that big of an adjustment. Both involve communication skills with an audience.
“I had Dustin Baker (host of the podcast VikesNow on YouTube) as a weekly contributor on my radio program and thought this would be a great place to continue to be creative with a subject I know a lot about,” explained Schultz. “They gave me a tryout and liked the content I was providing.”
Schultz knows a lot about football and also used to call the Caledonia Warriors games on Classic Hits 94.7. Along with that, he’s been a football coach at the youth level in Stillwater, Minn., and in Houston.

Like many small-town residents, Schultz wears several hats. Active in his local community, he coaches 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball for the Houston Hurricanes and is on the Houston volunteer ambulance squad.
Using his football skills and knowledge, Schultz became part of the team at Vikings Territory. Founded in 2010, the website says: “On a monthly basis, millions of fans turn to our site to get their team coverage, making Vikings Territory a leading authority and preeminent publication on the Minnesota Vikings.
The vision for Vikings Territory (VT) has evolved in recent years. The daily goal is to offer robust coverage of the Vikings by jumping into the conversation that’s constantly swirling around the team.
The writers at VT aren’t pretentious, instead opting to focus on pulling up a seat to the table to participate in the dialogue surrounding Minnesota’s football team.
“In some instances, that means providing original analysis. Still others focus on covering breaking news or the latest rumor. Furthermore, there’s attention to what others are saying about the team, often leading to opinion pieces that reveal our writers’ effort to get into the debate in a sophisticated yet down-to-earth manner We extend a warm welcome for you to pull up a seat to the table so you can participate in the discussion that Vikings Territory is keen to be leading both now and in the future.”
Schultz clarified that this is not a Vikings-affiliated blog site.

2025 Vikings’ record predictionsAs part of this gig, along with other Vikings Territory contributors, Schultz drafted his predictions for the season.
He thought they’d go 14-3 and wrote, “Many things can happen in a season to impact a team’s performance. A suspension, injury or even the addition of a new player can alter a season’s entire course. The season hinges on the play of J.J. McCarthy and whether a revamped running game and upgraded defense will improve on last season’s 14 wins.
“I see the Vikings coming out 5-0 into the bye, but then stumbling over the next couple of weeks with losses against the Eagles, Lions and Ravens. They get things back on track against the Bears and finish up 14-3. I’m usually pretty realistic when I look at these things, but it’s hard to think this team will take a huge step back.”
Recently, Schultz updated that initial prediction saying, “Well, I see there being more losses than I originally thought.
“With some luck and mostly getting healthy, they can still pull off a winning record.”
