Join textile artist, Soph Munic in exploring the intersection of bookmaking and textile art, to create books that hold our stories!

This workshop will combine an array of skills: some basic bookmaking and zine making, hand sewing, machine sewing, and collage. Soph will demonstrate how to plan out the basic structure of the book, and then there will be open studio time to create the individual pages. Throughout the class Soph will provide one-on-one support specific to artists individual projects. At the end of class Soph will show how to assemble the pages into a book.

Masks are required for this workshop. Additional masks will be available.

Soph Munic was a 2023 Lanesboro Artist-in-Residence. Their work is included in the 2025 Early Career Artist Exhibition at the Lanesboro Arts Gallery.

Participants are expected to bring their own equipment and materials, and are encouraged to bring an array of fabrics. The class is open to anyone interested in sewing. Some sewing experience is recommended.

Materials List:

• Sewing Machine (or a needle for hand sewing)
• Thread
• Scissors
• Fabric (Soph recommends cottons, clothes you are ready to cut up, forgotten quilt projects, etc)
• Optional: Sketches & reference photos, a poem you would like to put into your book, buttons or fun notions to add flair.
