OVERVIEW

Welcome the cast back to town after their tour to Red Wing, St. Paul, Historic Forestville! History is ‘herstory’ in “Time for Women, 150 Years of Leadership”, an original play about strong, notable women and suffragists in SE Minnesota and St. Paul. In two scenes encompassing 1870-1970, audiences witness many stories of struggle for women’s civil and voting rights. They will meet: 1870 suffragist Sarah Stearns of Rochester, publisher Bella French, Henrietta Turner Henry of Lanesboro , abolitionist Harriet Stevens of Rushford, black suffragist Nellie Francis, indigenous lawyer Marie Bottineau Baldwin, and Bertha Moller-one of MN’s force-fed suffragists, and 1970s feminists.  The show also celebrates the centennial of indigenous suffrage in 2024. History Alive Lanesboro invites audiences to take part in a suffrage rally during intermission of the show. The show ends with a discussion led by League of Women Voters members. Written by Jane Peck, produced by History Alive Lanesboro for our SE MN tour.

Audience comments: “I love hearing about these real-life women super heroes!” ” I love history in performance!” “I appreciate the inclusion of women of color.” “Illuminating and inspiring!”
